Haunts & History: CAPA Ghost Tours in Beaufort SC
If you love ghost stories, historic streets, and supporting a worthy cause, the CAPA & Exchange Club Ghost Tours are a must this October in Beaufort.

As October settles over Beaufort, the moss-draped streets whisper with stories of the past. For more than three decades, the CAPA & Exchange Club Ghost Tours have brought those stories to life, combining spine-tingling legends with a cause that matters. This year the ghost tours run select nights from October 10 through October 30.
What Are the CAPA & Exchange Club Ghost Tours?
The tours mix history, folklore, and local hauntings on guided walking and carriage rides through downtown Beaufort. Tour goers hear tales of ghostly apparitions, mysterious happenings, and the spectral legacies of historic homes and alleys. Carriage tours and walking tours are offered on selected nights, allowing participants to choose the pace and style that best suits their spooky mood.
Each year this becomes a highlight event in Beaufort’s Halloween calendar.
Powered by Local Volunteers & Community Spirit
One thing that makes this annual tradition especially meaningful is that local volunteers play a vital role in bringing the tours to life. Storytellers, guides, costumers, organizers, and behind-the-scenes support come from within the Beaufort community. Their dedication keeps the ghost tours not only entertaining but rooted in local character and lore.
Because of this volunteer base, the event remains deeply connected to Beaufort’s heritage rather than feeling like an external attraction. The authenticity shows up in the details—accents, local legends, and settings drawn from first-hand knowledge of the area.
About CAPA & Its Mission
CAPA stands for the Child Abuse Prevention Association of Beaufort County. Its mission is “to break the destructive cycle of child abuse and neglect by equipping parents, strengthening families, and providing advocacy, prevention, and support services.”
Through programs, education, counseling, and outreach, CAPA works to protect children and support families in vulnerable situations. The ghost tours, run in partnership with the Exchange Club, are a major fundraising event that channels community support into CAPA’s services.
